FOMIH Key Aims

Since the liquidation of the Manchester Storm, back in November 2002, FOMIH has been working towards the attainment of two key aims:

1. To work towards Manchester having a new team playing elite level ice hockey for the start of the 2003/04 domestic season.

2. In addition, as a long-term aim, FOMIH will look to support the development of a facility, capable of housing, developing and sustaining ice sports for community, recreational, amateur and professional use.

Progress on new team for 2003/04 season

At present, FOMIH is talking to two potential major investors who have expressed an interest in seeing a top-flight team for Manchester take shape and get up and running, and a third potential investor has made contact with us. A business plan is currently being finalised, and this in turn will become the foundation for our future development plans.

FOMIH has also contacted several potential corporate sponsors, and has been in contact with both the Ice Hockey Superleague and the Findus British National League with respect to formally applying for a franchise for the season 2003-2004.

Ice facilities and community support

On our longer term plans, the current situation is that, with the closure of the Devonshire Road rink in March of this year, there will be no ice facilities in the Greater Manchester area, save for the MEN Arena. FOMIH has made contact with Manchester City Council with regards to support for the sport from the local authorities, and with regards to potential plans for future developments in the Greater Manchester area.

SMG have been very positive about wanting Ice hockey back in the Manchester Arena and we are all working very hard to make this happen. As soon as there are any announcements or outcomes to report, they will be publicised via our Newsletter and on our website at www.fomih.co.uk
